Beazley hires Aon for US cyber role | Insurance business America

Specialist insurer Beazley has appointed Melissa Carmichael (pictured) as US cyber chief with immediate effect.
Carmichael joins Beazley from Aon, where she served as Managing Director and Head of Specialty and Middle Markets, and brings more than 25 years of industry experience to Beazley.
Of those two and a half decades, she spent over 16 years at Marsh, where she served as managing director and head of the financial and professional liability practice in New York.
“I’m excited to be joining such an impressive team at Beazley,” commented Carmichael. “In an ever-changing cyber marketplace, Beazley has ensured its customers stay ahead of the risk, prepared and unafraid of the threats facing their business.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the team and partnering with our brokers to build on this success and expand our market leading position.”
The new head of US cyber, based in New York, will report to head of global cyber risks Paul Bantick.
“At a time of increasing cyber threats, it is critical that we have leaders of Melissa’s caliber and expertise working with an experienced team to ensure our customers have increased cyber resilience,” Bantick explained.
“Her appointment is a testament to not only our ability to attract market-leading talent, but also our commitment to strengthening our global full spectrum cyber offering and capitalizing on opportunities in the U.S. cyber space.”
In the US, Beazley’s underwriters focus on creating a range of specialized insurance products. In the admitted market, coverage is provided by Beazley Insurance Company, an A-rated carrier licensed in all 50 states, and its subsidiary, Beazley America Insurance Company.
In the surplus insurance market, cover is provided by Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance and the Beazley syndicates at Lloyd’s.
