Canopius Names New Global Specialty Product Leader | Insurance business America
The company secured a number of moves in a “milestone year”.

Global property and casualty (P&C) re/insurer Canopius has announced the appointment of Mark Houghton (pictured above) as global specialty services product leader.
With over 20 years of experience in insurance and financial services, Houghton joins Canopius from AXA XL, where he led the political risk team for over a decade before becoming head of the Asia specialty division.
Houghton, who starts in October, will oversee the governance, performance and standards of Canopius’ specialty insurance businesses.
Houghton’s responsibilities include product development, innovation and defining Canopius’ risk appetite for specialty lines worldwide. He will report directly to Group Chief Underwriting Officer Sam Harrison.
“2024 will be another milestone year for Canopius as we look to build on the record year of 2023,” Harrison said. “To achieve our continued growth ambitions, we are expanding our global underwriting structure to help us innovate and develop products in line with our strategic objectives and risk appetite. Having someone responsible for global product innovation and development from our headquarters in Singapore reflects our growing presence around the world.”

This announcement follows several key hires for Canopius Group this year. Soon after, Keen Lee was appointed CEO for APAC and MENA, Jesse DeCouto was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer and Tonia Morgan was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Canopius Reinsurance Limited.
Uwe Schoberth has also been appointed head of US sales and Matthew Crane has been appointed head of UK sales.
Recently, the re/insurer also announced the appointment of Chris Getty as cyber and technology underwriter.
