The man suspected of killing 11 people in a Monterey Park dance hall late Saturday went to Hemet police two weeks prior and said his family had tried to poison him some 10 to 20 years ago, authorities said on Monday, Jan. 23.
Huu Can Tran, 72, visited the Police Department on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9, city spokesman Alan Reyes said, and also accused family members living in the Los Angeles area of fraud and theft.
“Tran stated he would return to the station with documentation regarding his allegations but never returned,” Reyes said.
Tran lived at The Lakes at Hemet West mobile-home park at 5001 W. Florida Ave. on the far-west end of town. The park is secured by a gate and a staffed guard shack.
Police spotted Tran in a white van in Torrance on Sunday afternoon. Surrounded, he did not get out and apparently fatally shot himself.
