American Airlines said on Friday Boeings Delays in deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner are forcing the company to cancel some long-haul flights in the second half of the year and early 2025. The latest airline to change its flight schedule due to production problems at the aircraft manufacturer.

American expects to receive three Dreamliners this year, up from six, it said in a filing Thursday. Boeing said earlier this week that parts shortages would prevent the company from ramping up production of the wide-body jets.

“We are making these adjustments now to ensure we can reaccommodate customers on affected flights,” American said in a statement. “We will proactively contact affected customers to offer alternative travel arrangements. We remain committed to our customers and team members and will mitigate the impact of these delays while continuing to offer a comprehensive global network.”

American will suspend some routes to Europe at the end of the summer. Here’s what changes:

  • Flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Athens will be suspended on September 3rd. The seasonal route was originally scheduled to end on October 26th.
  • Flights from New York to Barcelona will be suspended on September 3rd. The route has previously been available all year round and will be available again next year.
  • Flights from Dallas/Fort Worth International to Dublin and Rome, both of which were scheduled to be year-round flights, will now be discontinued on October 26 and will return next year.
  • Chicago O’Hare to Paris flights will end September 3 and will resume next year.

American will also offer a single daily flight between New York and Rome instead of twice daily starting August 5, and service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Kona, Hawaii will not operate this winter.

American said it will continue to offer 55 long-haul international routes this winter and that starting in January it will add daily nonstop service between Philadelphia and Barcelona and seasonal service between Miami and Montevideo, Uruguay. There are also three daily flights between Miami and Sao Paulo.

The airline is continuing to review its flight schedule due to the Boeing 737 Max delays, it said.

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
