Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell addresses the Wilson Center’s Washington Forum on the Canadian Economy on Wednesday in what will likely be his final policy speech before the next central bank meeting.
Powell will be joined by Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem and together they are expected to discuss “the economic outlook, monetary policy in their respective countries and the enduring value of the Canada-U.S. economic relationship,” it said a press release from the Wilson Center website.
The appearance goes hand in hand with market expectations that the Fed will keep its key interest rate stable at least until September. Recent higher-than-expected inflation readings have forced investors to recalibrate their expectations that the Fed would steadily cut interest rates this year.
