President Joe Biden arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday morning for his annual physical exam. A formal summary of its findings is expected later this afternoon.

While the physical is a routine exam, this year it could help bolster — or undermine — the 81-year-old incumbent’s claim that he is physically and mentally fit to serve another four years in white house to serve.

The Democrat has weathered relentless attacks on his age and fitness from his political opponents, particularly Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who turns 78 in June.

After the examination last year, White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said Biden “remains a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old man capable of successfully carrying out the duties of the presidency.”

Despite their age difference, polls show that voters are less worried about Trump’s fitness than Biden’s fitness.

In early February, a Justice Department special counsel investigating Biden over his handling of classified documents described the president in a report as an “older man with a poor memory.”

Biden angrily dismissed that report, acknowledging his age but declaring, “I know what the hell I’m doing.”
