The Walt Disney Company announced its new theatrical schedule on Friday, which will include a film about the Mandalorian and Grogu, a fifth “Toy Story” film and another “Tron” flick before the end of 2026.

The company’s movie theater business has struggled following pandemic-related shutdowns and two strikes by Hollywood workers, as productions stalled and moviegoers’ habits changed at the box office. At the same time, Disney struggled to connect with audiences, which exacerbated its sales problems.

Since returning to the helm of Disney in late 2022, CEO Bob Iger has been working to right the ship. He admitted that the quality of his films suffered due to the desire to offer a large amount of entertainment content.

He said brands like Marvel in particular need to be more selective about producing sequels.

Iger also said he would no longer tolerate his company’s partners and creative team prioritizing messaging over storytelling.

Disney’s updated list includes several iconic franchises as well as some releases aimed at adult audiences.

Notably, the company’s Moana sequel has been pushed back to July 2026. The premiere was originally planned for 2025.

“The Amateur,” a 20th Century production starring Oscar winner Rami Malek, has been pushed back to April 2025 from its previous date of November 2024. And “Nightbitch,” a Searchlight feature film starring Amy Adams, will be released in December 2024.

Disney announced that one of its Star Wars films in 2026 would star the iconic duo from Disney+ series The Mandalorian and revealed that the title will be The Mandalorian & Grogu. The cinema release is planned for May 22, 2026.

A fifth “Toy Story” film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, and “Tron: Ares” is scheduled for October 10, 2025.
