Trump hit with gag order in New York hush money case after slamming judge

A judge on Tuesday imposed a limited hush money order on Donald Trump ahead of his upcoming hush money trial in New York.

Trump must refrain from making public statements about likely witnesses and jurors in the case, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan said in a court order.

Trump is also prohibited from speaking about the attorneys involved in the case, court staff, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office employees and their family members if those statements were made with the “intent of materially interfering in the case,” the judge ruled .

Merchan’s order still allows Trump to comment on Alvin Bragg. Prosecutors are prosecuting the former president for falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

The gag order does not specifically prohibit Trump from criticizing the judge.

The decision, granting a Feb. 22 request by Bragg to limit Trump’s speech on the case, came hours after Trump called the judge a “Trump hater” on social media.

Trump called on Merchan to recuse himself from the case in several Truth Social posts and implicated the judge’s daughter in his attacks, citing her work for a Democratic consulting firm.

The Merchan shooting came a day after the judge scheduled the trial to begin April 15 – rejecting an attempt by Trump’s lawyers to further delay the trial.
